The men’s semis are scheduled for Friday with the final set to be played on Saturday. The women’s competition is being played in a round robin format.
In what is easily the most anticipated women’s match at the ongoing East and Central Africa Handball Federation (ECAHF) Club Championships in Dar es Salaam holders Nairobi Water Queens face arch-rivals National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB).

Despite being their third match in the five-team competition, coach Jack Ochieng says a win against their local nemesis will almost assure them of the title, but it will be no walk in the park.

Queens are unbeaten in their first two matches having picked a win in their first match, a 42-20 victory against hosts Jeshi la Kujenga Taifa (JKT) before picking a 28-16 win against Ngome on Wednesday.

On their part, NCPB won their opening match 30-15 against Ngome and will be playing their second against the Kenya Handball Federation (KHF) champions Queens.

“This is definitely a tournament decider and we are approaching it as such. We are meeting a different NCPB in Dar. They are full of confidence because of their participation in the championship and they are going to come hard at us. However, we will use all our arsenal and leave nothing to chance. We have a few manageable knocks and everyone is available for selection,” said Ochieng.

Meanwhile, Black Mamba, who have a rest day, will be holding their breath in anticipation as pool B’s Nyuki face-off with holders Rwanda Police as a win for the latter assures the Martin Abunde charges a place in the final four where they will meet NCPB men.
